Stage Name: D'Angel
Real Name: Michelle Angella Downer
Birth Date: April 1
Which high school did you attend?
St Catherine High
How did you get started in the business?
In early 2001, I started with a group called the LOY crew, (Lords Of Yards). Tony Kelly was the first to produce and record me as an artiste and saw extraordinary talent and a bright future for me.
What has been your greatest challenge in the business yet?
Day to day obstacles, for example voicing on a rhythm, hearing the juggling on the radio and not having that song as a part of the selection, i's rather heartbreaking. Also as a female in the business you have to work fifty times as hard, I plan to pursue every bit of talent till it buck.
What have you been up to lately?
I've been up to a lot, played a role on Royal Palm Estate as Rainbow, a model, singer and TV host. There's Angel Boutique my clothing store and also I've been working on my new album Rise, which symbolises upliftment in rising above your adversaries and coming out as a winner.
Do you look up to any specific artiste?
I don't have one specifically but basically any artiste that has been doing positive work and supports reggae as a brand, taking it to the corners of the world with upliftment.
Are you happy with the way things are going for your career right now?
Very much, I've kept my ground, composure and held my head high. With thanks to my fans, radio DJs and media houses.
Anything you'd like to change about it?
No, in life you don't predict your future, God never made a mistake with me. I'm not in music for the hype but the longevity, love of music, support of the people and the upliftment of reggae.
What are your future plans?
More albums, appearing in movies, copping some Grammies and simply living life to the fullest.
Do you have any advice for young artistes coming up?
Don't lure youself and think it's an easy way to get recognition, it's raw talent, professionalism, commitment and hard work.
