Captain Clifton Lumsden
The Business House Basket-ball Association has unveiled its plans for the 2008 3-on-3 season of basketball.
On the heels of a successful 2007 season, the organisers, headed by Captain Clifton Lumsden, are ready again to steer the new season. The competition is touted as an opportunity for corporate Jamaica to showcase its brands while having some fun on the court.
The 3-on-3 competition is open to all permanent and contractual employees of organisations in St Catherine and the Corporate Area. The competition is vibrant, competitive and encourages good friendly rivalry between competing teams.
"Our first five years went by very quickly, but not without some noticeable achievements. We have managed to attract reasonable media support to expose the brands of our participating teams, and as a result, we have been able to move from nine teams in year one, to over 30 teams this year," said Captain Lumsden.
Fever pitch
The rivalry and fierce competition among the top four teams escalated to fever pitch last year, and it is expected to get even hotter with the introduction of new teams and the movement of players among the companies.
The action begins on June 7 with the opening ceremony, dress parade and rally of the teams at the Stadium Courts, starting at 9:00 a.m. The league will begin on June 18, with matches played on Wednesdays - 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays - 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The winners of the competition, along with selected category winners, will be recognised at an awards ceremony in October.
