Uncapped off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth could figure in the three Test Home Series against Australia depending on pitch conditions and the availability of players, coach John Dyson has revealed.
Jaggernauth was a member of the squad since the Sri Lanka series but failed to make the squad for either Test in a series which finished 1-1. He was named in the 14-man squad for the opening Test against the Aussies starting at Sabina Park in Jamaica on Thursday.
"He's always a possibility to play. I've said this on numerous occasions before and we will look at the conditions of the grounds on the day of the Test match or the day before and make decisions of the team then," Dyson said.
"I've said quite often we will not always go in with a four-man pace attack or a three-man pace attack with a spinner and a medium-pacer. We will look at the conditions. We will look at who's fit and make decisions based on that. So Jaggernauth has a chance to play."
Further impressive
The 24-year old would have further impressed by taking five for 33 in 15 unchanged overs against the Stanford Antigua and Barbuda Pro-Team, on the second day of a two-day practice match here Saturday.
Jaggernauth, the leading wicket-taker in the domestic Carib Beer first-class season with 40 scalps, will be competing with lanky left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn for the slow bowling spot.
Benn made his debut against Sri Lanka in the opening Test in Guyana in March.
