Flight attendant killed

An Air Jamaica flight attendant was shot dead by gunmen on Pamela Drive, Kingston 10, on Friday night. She has been identified as 33-year-old Kathy-Ann Samms-Francis of a Pamela Drive address.

Reports are that about 10:30 p.m., Samms-Francis was driving along Pamela Avenue when a grey Mitsubishi Lancer and a white Toyota Caldina drove up to her car. The occupants of the vehicles ordered her out of her car, but she refused and attempted to drive away. It is reported that a man then came out of one of the vehicles and opened fire, hitting her. She lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into a utility pole.

Deputy Superintendent Carol McKenzie, operations officer for the St Andrew North Police Division, said when the police arrived on the scene, they had to break the left rear window of Samms-Francis's car in order to get to her as she was locked inside. It was later discovered that she was suffering from a bullet wound to the head. She was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

DSP McKenzie added that Samms-Francis had called her brother on the telephone telling him to open the driveway gate so she could get in as she believed she was being followed. However, she was shot while her brother was opening the grille in order to get outside to open the driveway gate.
