Classic in CTL Portmore domino final

Defending champions Hurricane will oppose high-riding Caribbean Classic in the final of the CTL-sponsored Portmore/St. Catherine domino league at Caymanas Park tomorrow starting at 11:00 a.m.

The winning team will receive $130,000 and championship trophy, and the runners-up $80,000.

Hurricane from Dunbeholden advanced to the final following their 300-283 win over the highly touted Eradication in one semi-final at Caymanas Park on May 4. Pre-season favourites Caribbean Classic from Portmore Lane crushed Old Harbour United 300-249 in the other semi-final on the same day at Caymanas.

The third place playoff between Eradication and Old Harbour United will also be played tomorrow at Caymanas Park. The winner of this match will receive $50,000, the losers $30,000.

In their only meeting on March 9 at Portmore Lane, Caribbean Classic defeated Hurricane 300-280 and as such have bragging rights.

That, however, will mean little to Hurricane going into this final, having developed a reputation as a big occasion side. Last year they defied the odds to win the competition.

Classic will look to proven players such as Gregory 'Scattershot' James, Patrick Thomson, Peter Holness, Dwight Green, Dennis James, Rupert Pryce and Derrick 'Fireball' Campbell to carry the fight, while Hurricane will counter with Miguel Brown, David 'Lazza' Richards, Rudolph Poyser, Roger Bucknor, Dwayne Dimmitt, Horace Grandison, Edward Pinnock, and female player Natalie Wright.
