Spanish Town
An 18-year-old woman made several persons uneasy at the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court after giving chilling details of how she had disposed of her newborn baby.
Tamara Blair, of Waterloo district, near Ewarton, St Catherine, told RM Lorna Errar that she was guilty of concealment of birth. This after arresting officer, Detective Corporal Leroy Guy, outlined that on Friday, May 9, the teenager gave birth to a boy and later confessed that she threw the child in the bushes.
"Are you guilty of this offence?" enquired Ms Lorna Errar.
"Yes ma'am, it was a bwoy. As a look at him, mam, me put im inna de bushes and mi hear it mek one sound as the umbilical cord was around his neck. I did that," Blair replied.
Teenager
Seemingly shocked by this action, the RM enquired how old Blair was and she replied, "I am a teenager."
She also told the court that she had two other children, who were in the custody of relatives. With several persons sighing and mumbling, the RM sought to get legal representation for the troubled teenager, but this was to no avail.
As a result, she said a psychiatric evaluation would have to be done and gave Blair a May 27 return date.
