Gregory Park Primary will get well-needed attention on Labour Day, May 23.
Portmore Mayor Keith Hinds said that Gregory Park Primary is the major project for the municipality and a number of activities will be taking place. The school will be renovated by the cleaning of classrooms, painting of the walls and the putting in place a school garden.
Gregory Park square will also get some attention as the mayor tries to improve the beauty of Portmore.
Mayor Hinds said that in keeping with the theme for Labour Day, Portmore, like the rest of Jamaica, will 'Eat what we grow, grow what we eat'. He even took it a step further saying they will "share what we grow".
In explaining the latter phrase, he said: "If one neighbour plants cucumber in their backyard and another plants tomatoes, then they can both share the produce from one another's gardens."
Meanwhile, Mayor Hinds is urging organisations that have not done so, to register their projects at the municipal office.
He also implored Portmore residents to come out and support these ventures as it is important for community building.
April Jackson, the reigning Miss Jamaica Universe 2008, will be a special guest of the mayor of Portmore on his Labour Day journey throughout the municipality.
The council reported that 500 fruit trees are in its possession, and Portmore residents can collect seedlings to plant on Labour Day.
