Artiste Lady Saw - Ricardo Makyn
Queen of the Dancehall Lady Saw is planning to hit the streets with new music, new shows and more Marion Hall.
While Lady Saw hasn't been as visible in Jamaica, that has not prevented rumours from circulating about her. There were reports in the media earlier this week that Lady Saw and Solid Agency's Sharon Burke had a falling-out over the artiste's booking.
However, when THE STAR spoke with Saw, she denied the rumours saying, "Sharon Burke and I have no problem, it wasn't Sharon Burke, it was her office that had booked a show for me in Spain and there was a lot of confusion around it. But I hear somebody was on the radio wid it (the rumours) so I spoke to her about it and she said she called the radio and told them we had no problem, just whole heap of misunderstanding and confusion."
Saw, who says she has had problems in past, says that for several years now her sister has been responsible for her handling bookings.
Now a veteran in the business, Lady Saw's long-standing contract with VP Records officially ended with her Walk Out album, but that's not stopping her from making more music. According to Saw, she already has 10 tracks that will make up her new album, and she has been working with different producers, such as Scatta, Sly and Robbie, King Jammys, Ward 21 and Jazzy T.
Dancehall style
One of her songs has been getting some airplay recently. The song is a remix of former Beatles, Paul McCartney's Nod Your Head. The rock love song was done over in a dancehall style featuring Lady Saw, Sizzla and Cherine Anderson, and was produced by Sly and Robbie.
"The song was introduced to me by Sly and Robbie, they came to me and told me they wanted me to be a part of it. I just listen to what Mr McCartney did, it was a crazy song but I was honoured to do it," Saw said.
With new tracks in the making, Lady Saw wants to once again become more visual in the dancehall, and in an effort to achieve that she has enlisted the help of Ray Alexander from Khool Booking Agency to be her new publicist.
"I know I'm already out there but I need someone to expand di ting and broaden my horizon. So I don't have a manager I did years ago, I know Ray for quite a while now and whatever artiste he works with they always get a hundred per cent of exposure. I'm no longer wid VP Records who were the people behind my career, putting me out there where I needed to be."
Saw will be leaving the island soon for a show in Spain.
