Forgive and forget?

Dear Pastor,

I am 33 years old and I have four children for three different men. I am married to the last child's father. I found out that he cheated on me once. I do everything for this man. He is ungrateful. He told me that the only reason why he got married to me is because I have my own house where he could stay and that he didn't love me. That was when he found the girl. I cried night and day because this man proposed to me and not the other way around.

After all this, he then suggested that we see a counsellor. We got counselling then he apologised for what he did. We are still together, but I can't trust this man again.

He begged me not to leave him, but whenever I remember all that he had done to me, it makes me want to leave him. He said he wants our marriage to work because it was the devil who wanted to destroy our marriage. I want my marriage to work too, but I just can't trust this man.

Please, pastor, tell me what to do. We are both Christians.

Dear A0,

This man greatly insulted you when he said he only married you because he wanted to come and live in your house. He is a worthless man. And those crocodile tears that he put down shouldn't move you at all. I can't say that you should not forgive him, but he has already said that he does not love you and he meant it.

I wish there was a way to punish this man. How about for punishment, he would agree to wash, cook and clean and pay every bill in the house for a long time to come. Do you think he would agree? Some men don't know when they have a good thing. Anyway, may God give you the grace to learn to forgive him and trust him after he has done everything in his power to regain your trust.

Pastor
