Shane O, Sean Paul venture in

Sean Paul, Shane O - file

In this weekly 'Muss Buss Caan Buss' song review feature, three musical minds with different tastes will analyse a song and grade it on vocal ability, lyrics, musical arrangement and appeal. Songs that make the grade will be dubbed 'Mus Buss', while songs that flop will be dumped in the 'Caan Buss' bin.

This week, the team will be reviewing Sean Paul and Shane O's Girl's Territory on the 'Sandfly' rhythm.

Witch: "Bwoy, a nuff a go on in dis song still, not dat it sound bad but a nuff a gwaan wid di riddim, is like mi haffi listen hard fi hear wha dem a seh, but maybe in di studio it soun likkle betta."

X Factor: "It sound more like a riddim and di song inna di background, mi nuh know, mi can recognize seh a Sean Paul ... a him alone?"

Lady Boo: "Him and Shane O (laughs). Although yuh neva know seh a Shane O, his voice sounds clear and yuh see seh him a mature as an artiste, but dat 'a-huh-huh' ting him need to get rid of it."

Witch: "Is good to be hearing from di both of dem though, to know all like Sean don't drop off, especially since mi might not be hearing bout him as often. Good of him to be taking young talent under his wing, his name will help dem get a buss."

X Factor: "Sean Paul seem to work better by himself locally like di Vegas dat song deh really stand out. Generally though, he has more success on his own."

Lady Boo: "It seem like him gone back to him roots in terms of di content, it's not just bout di dancing him a sing bout daggaring now in one of him odda songs."

Witch: "Up to now though mi can't tell yuh wha di song bout - mi just nah hear or nah pay enough attention, it not clear enough."

X Factor: "It sound like di two of dem a try deejay di same way and yuh haffi bring yuh own style or else it gonna sound boring."

Lady Boo: "Dem blend too much, dem spoil di mixture. Dem need to get out that fine voice ting that's in di riddim, it just sound annoying."

Witch: "Yeah, dat likkle pickney ting in di riddim don't mek it."

Lady Boo: "It woulda buss better if it was a capella. Mi nuh know bout no bussing ting wid dis one. Better luck next time."

X Factor: "Nope, definitely nah feel da one yah."

Witch: "I'll hold out a likkle longer on dis one, it ain't di best song, but inna party wid some good mixing it might not sound bad and it might get airplay just because a Sean and Shane O and him a try do a ting for him."

The three reviewers welcome feedback from the artistes and the public about the column. Send your comments to bussdem@hotmail.com.

You may mail your songs for review to 'Mus Buss' at The Gleaner Company, 7 North Street, Kingston.
