Rising Stars Update: Suzanne Perkins makes call at auditions

On her way to day one of her cabaret gig at Sandals Montego Bay, a stunning and now grown-up Suzanne Perkins made an appearance on Saturday at the Digicel Rising Stars audition held at Club Inferno.

When quizzed, Suzanne confided that she was there for two reasons: to offer support to her cousin Shanti, who she described as 'very talented', and to make a courtesy call on the show's crew.

Quick flashback to post-2007 Digicel Rising Stars: weeks after placing third in the competition, Perkins was busy with as many bookings as there were weekends. This led to a short-lived stint at Couples Resort.

Musical aspirations

"After the competition, I was busy with a lot of performances. "Then I decided to go back to school," shared the Mobay sweetheart, whose rise to stardom ironically came after a rejection in her hometown but success in Negril.

Perkins will soon complete her studies at The Learner Centre in Montego Bay, and she plans to enrol in nursing school. But where does this plan leave her musical aspirations?

"I am still doing music, I am working on an album," beamed the usually reticent Perkins. And after? "Well, I don't know how I will manage the two careers but I will have to sort it out," she explained.

As for her cousin, Shanti, she didn't make it; but the now 18-year old promising star, who knows more than enough about moving on from an unsuccessful Mobay audition, told her cousin to "try again at another venue".

On Saturday, May 17, the show goes to the sunshine city of Portmore in St Catherine, then to Hibiscus Lodge Hotel in Ocho Rios on May 24, and conclude in Kingston at the Young Women's Christian Association on May 31.
