Traffic piled up for hours in the York Plaza area of Half-Way Tree yesterday after a gunman shot and killed a woman in broad daylight.
The woman has been identified as 22-year-old cosmetologist, Sushania Young.
It is reported that Young received an anonymous call on her cellphone in the morning instructing her to meet with someone at York Plaza, Half-Way Tree.
Reports are that after she arrived on location about 11:45 a.m., a man, unknown to Young, beckoned to her and as she walked over to him, he drew a firearm and fired several shots at her. Young then tried to elude the shooter but the man gave chase, firing. She fell shortly after and was then shot in the head by the gunman who escaped on Hagley Park Road.
Young was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Her death drew scores of onlookers who gathered at the scene. But, although the shooting occurred in full view of the public, no one was willing to provide the police with information.
The crime scene caused a pile up of traffic in the area as vehicles heading towards Molynes and Hagley Park road had to be diverted.
Strangely, the shooting occured only a few metres from the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court and the Half-Way Tree Police Station.
