No holding back for Timmi

Tanola Jackson, Star Writer

Clive 'Timmi' Burrell

Clive 'Timmi' Burrell has been improving his musical skills and has been recording a number of songs despite his long absence from the musical scene.

Burrell is now ready to hit the road again as he says, "This time the fans will see a new and improved me, a stronger singer with more flavour and style. I will be giving them the best that I have in terms of the songs I am doing and my performance on stage. I'm not holding back, I'm gonna give them all I have."

Hot boys

Burrell, who was born in Spanish Town says he became interested in music while in high school and was a part of a dance group called the Hot Boys, which was always a hit at school concerts.

However, it wasn't until he performed at a concert staged by the Studio 5 Youth Club in Green Island, that he started singing.

"The response I got from the audience was overwhelming. After this successful singing debut I made up my mind to become a singer," he said.

After leaving high school in the early '90s and moving to Negril, was even more determined to achieve his goal and soon began performing at several events in Negril, such as Negril Salute and Reggae by the Sea.

In 2001, Burrell met Ralston Barrett a Negril-based producer and artiste manager who was very impressed with his talent and immediately began working with him.

In that same year he recorded and released his first single, Tear It Off on Barrett's BIG label. He then followed with other singles like Up and Down and Children Crying.

Burrell says, since the release of those songs he has recorded a number of unreleased songs for Barrett's BIG label and other producers such as Computer Paul (Boot Camp Records) and Richard Browne (Isle Of Springs label).

He has also performed at major events, like Reggae Sumfest in 2001 and 2002, Reggae by the Sea in 2002, Negril Impact 2007, GT Taylor Extravaganza 2007 and the Hague Agricultural Show.

Burrell, who has recorded more than enough songs for an album, says he is no rush to release an album, but rather, is concentrating on releasing other singles later this year.
