Dress for 'Rising Stars' success

Krista Henry, Staff Reporter

It is often said that to be a star you have to dress like one. However, the majority of persons at the Mandeville leg of THE STAR sponsored Digicel Rising Stars held last Saturday at Manchester High School lacked that certain fashion flair that gets noticed.

With hundreds of persons auditioning at every station, contestants have to stand out not only based on the quality of their voices but also on their personality and the ability to impress through their appearance.

Although the judges emphasised stylish dressing as a means to impress them, the crowd at the Mandeville auditions looked average at best. Most women were simply dressed in jeans and often dull shirts, few wearing eye catching colours. A few women tried the sexy approach showing off a lot of skin in skimpy shirts and skirts.

More impressive men

Some of the men were more impressive in their looks with a number of them showing off the dancehall bling style with bright colours and dazzling shirts. Few men came decked out in full suits, one young man went for the army look in full camouflage. Big dark glasses was the trend among the men who had their faces hid behind their fashionable eyewear.

Among the women, one female in full white, and another in black wearing an eye catching silver pattern stood out. Another young woman, Melissa, who showed off her outfit to THE STAR, was clad in killer knee high brown boots trimmed with fur and a brown blouse. Kerri-Ann Parkins also stood out in a grey and black ensemble with a felt hat and tie paired with a black pants. Kerri-Ann described her fashion as "anything I like and put together, this look today is just crazy Kay."

Janet Thomas also grabbed some immediate attention as she was clad in a long dark green gown. An avid church goer, Janet said as a Christian woman her look reflected her lifestyle.

Hopefully as the Digicel Rising Stars auditions continue the fashion will get funnier, livelier and more eye catching.
