Seven women ranked among the top 10 in the world - including Jamaicans Veronica Campbell-Brown and Kerron Stewart - are expected to face off in the women's 100m at the Adidas Track Classic on May 18.
The Adidas Track Classic, to be held at the Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University, will also feature Lauryn Williams and Torri Edwards who, along with Campbell-Brown, were 100m finalists at the 2007 World Championships.
Campbell-Brown, who edged Williams, the 2005 world champion, for the gold at last year's World Championships in Osaka, along with Edwards, the 2003 world champion, will have to work very hard if they are to win.
World Championships bronze medallist Carmelita Jeter, ranked number three, is expected to be the crowd favourite as she will return to her old school - California State University.
They will be challenged by Stewart, the world leader at 10.96; Melisa Barber, the 2006 World Indoor Champion at 60 metres; Marshevet Hooker, the 2005 NCAA Champion who ran a huge personal best last weekend at the Jamaica International Invitational; Sanya Richards, the American 400m record-holder and 2005 World Championship silver medallist at 400 metrres; and Allyson Felix, the 200-metre World Champion and gold medallist in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays at last year's World Championships.
Tyson Gay, the world sprint double champion, will do double duty at the meet. At 100m, he will go up against Derrick Atkins, the World Championship silver medallist from the Bahamas, while at 200m he will meet Xavier Carter, the third-fastest man in history behind Michael Johnson and Gay.
