Venom Squad shines at Dancin' Dynamites

Tanola Jackson, Star Writer

Last year's runner-up, Kimbe, makes a guest appearance at the Dancin' Dynamite studio show, held at TVJ's studio, Lyndhurst Road, on Sunday.

Last Sunday's show was all about dancing to the music of different genres, and the six remaining dynamites got a chance to do just that in front of judges Neila Ebanks, Michael Holgate and Patrick Earle, as well as a live audience.

Each group had to perform a piece from any of the following choreographers included Barbara McDaniel, Ding Dong, Monica-Potts Lawrence, Marlon Simms, Tony Wilson and Kenneth Casy.

Guest performer Shady Squad, the 2006 second-place winners, opened the show, dancing to Flo Rida's Get Low, Mavado's Crime Scene and Shaggy's Boombastic to the sound of screaming women in the audience.

HJ Squad was the first dynamite to take the stage and prove their versatility with a pop piece choreographed by Barbara McDaniel. However, according to judge Neila, they could have done more.

The group received only 26 points.

Venom Squad impressed the judges and set the place ablaze with their reggae piece by popular dancer Ding Dong. The duo danced up a storm to songs like Voicemail's Up and Live and Ele's No Linga and Warm Up. They received 27 points, the highest for the night.

"Love the solo work, good energy and good vibes," said guest judge Michael Holgate.

And Neila added, "Nice abstraction, choreography not bad, now you're dancing."

Next was Mad Links who did a folk dance choreographed by Monica Potts-Lawerence. The group received only 23 points.

The judges felt G Squad did a good job and displayed a lot of emotions during their performance. Thr group did a love piece which was choreographed by Marlon Simms.

"I felt the connection and I think you made a good attempt," Neila said. The group also received 26 points.

Untouchable Squad followed with 22 points, dancing to Jazz by Tony Wilson. The judges felt they did a fair job.

"Good attempts, but towards the end it felt like you were uncomfortable," guest judge Michael said.

Hypa Active Clique received 22 points following their African dance which was choreographed by Kenneth Casy.

Last year's second-place winner, Kimbe ended the show in fine style as they danced to Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown's No Air and Keep It Gangsta by the Alliance.

At the end it was the Untouchable Squad who were sent home after receiving the least number of votes from the previous week.
