Caretaker for the North Western St Elizabeth constituency, Lloyd Myrie, has been freed of carnal abuse charges.
The offence was allegedly committed in March 2006.
During today's hearing in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court, a deacon from a Catholic Church presented written details of a confession made by the complainant to a priest.
In the confession, the complainant claimed that her statement to the police in January 2007 was false.
Handwriting examined
After the document was given to the court, Resident Magistrate Stephanie Jackson-Haisley ordered that a handwriting expert examine the signatures on the police statement given by the complainant.
The expert concluded that they were the same.
Yesterday, attorney Bert Samuels asked the resident magistrate to free Myrie in light of the written confession.
The resident magistrate upheld the submission and freed Myrie.
Myrie was denied an opportunity to contest for the post of MP in the last general election because of the allegations.
