D'Angel pursues music full time
Being the hardworking woman that she is, D'Angel began to pursue her music career while operating her boutique. She began writing songs and doing studio sessions after work. Her first solo effort, 'Hottie Girls', was produced by Kevin Blake and released in 2004. Her follow-up single, 'Blow', was produced by Cordel 'Scatta' Burrell.
She kept the momentum going with a collaboration with Jah Mason. However, it was not long after that she found the rhythm that would thrust her into the dancehall industry and earn her stripes as a female artiste.
In 2005, under the banner of her label, Champagne International Records, D'Angel's single, Downtown Girl Livin Uptown, which tells the tale of a downtown girl who hasn't lost her 'realness' despite a change of address - became a huge hit, so much so that she teamed up with Tanya Stephens for a remix.
The song danced its way to the number-one spot on several local charts. This was only the tip of the iceberg for D'Angel, and several hits soon followed.
In 2006, D'Angel dominated local and international media with her celebrity marriage to dancehall artiste Moses Davis, aka Beenie Man, and they collaborated on an infectious tune, One Man. The song became the new dancehall anthem and saturated the airwaves.
Subsequent to this big hit, D'Angel released another smash single, Woman Power, a song that speaks about the strength of a woman and implored society to give women the respect and opportunity they deserved.
On the heel of these successes came a collaboration with dancehall stalwart Vybz Kartel on the Baby Father track, which was also another major hit.
To date, D'Angel has worked with the likes of Macka Diamond, Ras Ghandi, Kiprich and Beenie Man. She has taken her vivacity and energy to various stage shows here and abroad. Her spicy lyrics and charismatic stage performances landed her a nomination in 2006 for Female DJ of the year. She was awarded Best Dress Female that same year.
D'Angel has a lot of recorded songs and is currently working on her debut album slated for release in 2008. However, she is yet to scratch the surface of her potential. She is on a mission and with her passion, energy and commendable work ethics, she is set for great things.
