Part 1 - D'Angel's time now

Introducing the 'Angelic' one ....

The male-dominated dancehall industry is now giving way to assertive females who are showing the veteran disc jockeys that not only can they juggle the microphone but they can also command a large dancehall audience at any show. Some call it a revolution, others say it's the enlightenment but this earth angel, D'Angel skilfully referred to it as "woman time now".

Michelle Downer-Davis affectionately called D'Angel is the epitome of a true black woman wearing many caps while filling her life's dream and passion. She is a mother, wife, businesswoman and an artiste. D'Angel proudly wears these caps every day while breaking barriers and serving as a role model to several young adults.

Born and raised in Spanish Town where she attended St. Jago High School, D'Angel is proud of her roots.

Vocal ability

D'Angel always knew that she was born to be a star and this dream was shared by her friends and family who encouraged her to hone her vocal ability by singing and performing at an early age.

In fact, they often served as her audience while she practised her vocals. Eventually, she started to perform at school parties, concerts and even in class, anyone who knew D'Angel from her childhood was aware that she was always performing and singing.

However, like most journeys in life there is always a detour and this was the case for D'Angel's musical journey. She drifted from her musical pursuit and entered the world of glitz, glamour and couture when she took on her modelling career in the early 90s. Strutting runways and landing alluring photo shoots were only preparing her for the bigger spotlight that she would later receive in the music fraternity.

Entrepreneurial skills

The 'A-List' lifestyle and popularity were not enough to keep D'Angel away from her music, and in 2001 she made an attempt to get her musical career on stream. This did not work out, but D'Angel was still determined to be successful.

She was very resilient and took the setback in her stride, using it as an opportunity to pursue something different. She was plunged back into the fashion industry where she immediately capitalized on her entrepreneurial skills and in 2002, opened her unisex fashion boutique 'Ange'.

She had the fashion boutique and a modelling career in the bag, but there was still something missing from D'Angel's life. She was missing her music, her ultimate love and dream.

(Next, D'Angel embarks on a musical career)
