Walker on a three-timer

Jimmie, Star Racing Writer

Trinidadian jockey Brian Harding scoring aboard the Dwight Chen-trained FIRST TIME LUCKY in last Saturday's Bigga Dash over 1000m straight at Caymanas Park. Harding had a four-timer on the 12-race card. His other winners were MOUNT DIABLO, ALSAFRA in the Jamaica Oaks and SUPER DAVE. - colin hamilton

HARMONICS turned the table on 4-5 favourite CAPTAIN BONE on Saturday, winning the opening Pick-9 race at odds of 11-1, sending many bets crashing out at the first hurdle.

MISS ATLANTIC STAR's mild upset at 5-1 with sparingly-used jockey Gary Santos in the seventh, sent the Pick-9 carryover surging to $1.9 million, starting at tomorrow's second event.

Super-6 bettors were again on target. Despite HARMONICS' upset win, there were 19 winning tickets for the early Super-6, each worth $62,300 whereas the late bet returned $22,839 to 68 winning tickets.

With the Pick-9 at $1.9 million and the Super-6 at $500,000, all of $2.4 million worth of jackpots will be up for grabs tomorrow.

The Pick-9 should be a challenging one but champion jockey Omar Walker looks set to boot home a three-timer on the 10-race card.

Walker should give Pick-9 players a flying start in the first two races with TIME OF MY LIFE and BLUE MARLIN, respectively ,before closing his three-timer with SPLINTER MAGIC in the eighth.

TIME OF MY LIFE hasn't raced in two months but reports down in class at 1100 metres, a distance at which the seven-year-old gelding should use his blinding speed to get away from rivals and hang tough up the lane.

Last raced in February, TIME OF MY LIFE set fast splits at 1000 metres round but was chased off the lead by FIRETRAIN and finished six and a half-lengths fifth.

Slipped a rung down the claiming ladder, TIME OF MY LIFE will have to be caught with Walker. REGGAE RUCKUS, who won at 1200 metres late last month, has good speed and should be the horse chasing TIME OF MY LIFE into the straight.

However, TIME OF MY LIFE should steal the event down the backstretch and should be home and dry before the pack gets going.

BLUE MARLIN is up in class for the third race after easily putting away $210,000 claimers at 1100 metres on April 19. Stretched out at 1700 metres, BLUE MARLIN should use her speed to steal away from rivals before coasting in under the champion rider.

Walker should close his three-timer with SPLINTER MAGIC at 1000 metres straight, back among $170,000 claimers where she lost by a neck to RED I at the distance on January 30.

Many punters fear using bankers to close their Pick-9 bets but RANSOM MAN's performance at 1700 metres on March 22 was a strong one and the 2006 Derby winner should repeat at 1500 metres in the nightpan.

Meanwhile, Shane Ellis should have the answer for Super-6 players hunting a banker to start their bets for a shot at $500,000 as Anthony Nunes' FLAGMAN should get it right the second time of asking.

The three-year-old gelding failed by a half-length to beat SUNSHINE OF MY LIFE at 1000 metres straight two weeks ago and should get off the mark on the round course at 1200 metres against lesser rivals.
