Mile Gully and New Green played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg final of the Captain's Bakery & Grill sponsored Manchester Major League at Brooks Park at the weekend.
New Green's captain Kirk Baker gave his team the lead from the penalty spot easily beating goal keeper Colin Stewart for a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute.
The useful Mile Gully line-up clawed its way back when Andre Reid sneaked behind the New Green defence to expertly slot past goal keeper Andre Bloomfield in the 36th minute.
Shift in momentum
The momentum of the game would shift to Mile Gully for the remainder of the half as New Green appeared to have stopped playing, failing to string meaningful passes together and looking a shadow of the team which won the mid-season final while finishing well on top on points accumulated after the preliminary stage.
Mile Gully would suffer a significant casualty early in the second half with the sending off of their central defender Andrew Peart for a second bookable offence. However, New Green would fail to capitalise on one man advantage.
But for the last ten minutes of the second half, the overall quality of the game left a lot to be desired. There was, however, much intensity and this suggests that neither team will be making it easy for the other come next weekend.
