Venom stings the competition

By Anthony Minott, STAR writer

Venom Squad - Anthony Minott

Venom Squad, the duo with the third highest votes in Sunday's Star-sponsored Dancin' Dynamites show at the TVJ Studios gave a stinging performance that left their counter-parts stunned in their wake.

The night which belonged to 'funky music', was dominated by the venomous male/female duo, who received 10s from resident judges Neila Ebanks and Orville Hall. Guest judge, Suzanne Mahfood, of the In Motion dance studio spoiled the party by giving them a nine even though she loved the performance and didn't see any flaws. "Great performance, technically you were good," she said.

Neila said she was impressed with the growth of the female dancer and visualised dancing hip hop while watching the performance. Orville said that: "Everybody can dance, but not everybody a dancer."

Venom's 29 points was the highest score for the night.

G Squad also impressed the judges, and received 27 points for second on the judges' card. "I love it! (They have) a lot of energy," is how Suzanne described G Squad's performance. Neila noted that: "This is where you belong", acknowledging that the dance suited them perfectly. Orville commended them for a well researched routine.

Hypa Active Clique was the only other duo to make it past 20 points. Their score of 21 saw them in third place. Hypa Active, although having an entertaining piece, didn't wow the judges.

The judges were quite strict on some of the performers, and flashed two sixes and a seven at Mad Links and Untouchable Squad, both getting 19 points.

Last week's duo who got a perfect 30, HJ Squad, saw their performance dipp drastically, and got sixes right across the board. The judges thought that their choreography and energy was sub-standard. Guest judge, Suzanne said that the music that was playing made her eager to go on the dance floor and dance, but, that they weren't really dancing.

Guest performers RDX and the Kataloc Dancers, had the audience in a frenzy with their high octane performance.

Meanwhile, Mad Squad was sent home for having the least number of votes, one more duo will be eliminated next week, leaving five duos to 'bring it'.
