THE EDITOR, Sir:
This year marks the l00th anniversary of British author Ian Fleming's birth. In case you may not know, Fleming is the creator of the fictional character 007 James Bond .
Fans around the world still know those famous movie lines. The name James Bond was first used in the movie Dr No which was filmed in Jamaica 1962 and starred Sean Connery. It also featured notable Jamaican actors such as the late Reggie Carter.
Fleming's fictional character has great historical links with Jamaica. There is Fleming's home, Golden Eye (also the name of a movie in the James Bond franchise) and James Bond Beach.
Ian Fleming's fans will know that his experience as a naval commander during World War 2 and his knowledge of secret intelligence operations led him to create the James Bond novels during his life in Jamaica.
As a result we say happy birthday Ian Fleming, from Jamaica with love.
I am, etc.,
