A section of Kew Road, St Andrew. - Norman Grindley
AS PART of our mission to be the people paper, THE WEEK-END STAR has been highlighting problem areas across the island. Our reporter, Carolyn Johnson, along with photographer Norman Grindley, will focus on a particular area until the problem is fixed. This will give us a rough idea of how long the relevant authorities take to deal with some of the problems affecting our country.
This week we are still on Mandela Highway which is in darkness. Some of lights along the highway and the toll road are out. Still, a more puzzling darkness exists.
At this point we are still unaware whose responsibility it is to maintain the street lights along the toll road, which exits onto Mandela Highway. The closest we have come to solving this mystery is narrowing it down to two organisations - the St Catherine Parish Council and TransJamaica Highway Limited. THE WEEKEND STAR was informed, however, that discussions are in progress between the two entities. What we do know is that the Jamaica Public Service has declared that it is not involved in this matter. And so, the mystery and the darkness continue.
Bumpy delays
Meanwhile, motorists who travel along Kew Road are still in for deep, bumpy delays as the patchwork process is yet to reach this damaged avenue.
