THE STAR continues with its poll results today. In the past few weeks we have been 'hitting' the streets with all the juiciest questions about sex, obeah, music, religion and much more.
Last time we asked if people would consider turning to prostitution in order to adequately provide for their families. This time, we wanted to know if criminal activities were completely off limits or if, in desperation, people would turn to illegal activities. We asked :
If you were not able to support yourself and your immediate family, would you think strongly about getting involved in criminal activities of one type or another, or would you ever consider becoming a criminal in order to support yourself and your family?
Here's what we found out :
Think Strongly About It.....10%
Never Consider It...............88%
Don't Know...........................2%
The majority of respondents said they would never consider turning to crime to support their family. A small 10 per cent, however, revealed that they would strongly think about engaging in illegal activities if things got bad. It is interesting to see that although poverty is always being blamed for crime, only a small group of people said they would turn to crime to make ends meet.
The poll was conducted on January 28 -29 by Johnson Survey Research Limited
