Rising Stars update: Cavan Lewis To say that the first Digicel Rising Stars winner, Cavan Lewis, is destined for great things would be to reduce the artiste's career prospects to a mere cliché.
But, given Lewis' current successes one could understand the temptation. Lewis is signed to Timberland Productions, the same Timberland that produced tracks with Missy Elliot, and is responsible for chart toppers from the likes of Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado. Cavan works with vocal production expert Jim Beanz as well as a host of other highly rated producers.
Consequently the last three months have had the now Philadelphia-based Lewis penning lyrics and jetting to studio recordings in Miami, New York and Los Angeles to complete his demo album.
"The vibe is crazy here, right now we are working on [my] demo to shop around to major labels," explained Lewis in a recent interview. Shopping around is something his camp believes in as it was this same strategy that landed Lewis his Timberland Productions deal.
After his 2004 victory, Lewis and his then manager, Cordell Shakespeare, made attempts to kick-start his career but had trouble finding the right formula for the local market. The team then set its sights on the United States entertainment industry.
This eventually led to the offices of Sunset Entertainment Group, where present manager, Vandana Gupta, says they have 'found the right team and are working at finding his musical vision.' When asked about her impression of him, she added that "he is excited, wonderful, eager and passionate."
For Lewis' part, he cites growth as his biggest achievement so far. "I have improved a lot, in terms of confidence. Working with the producers has opened up a whole different realm when it comes to my writing and singing and just my overall development."
The team has plans to release his first single by this summer and already the production for a video is being finalised.
If Cavan has his way, the release will definitely add to this year's summer heat. "It's a different kind of music; you'll dance and you'll drive and bounce to some good music; something that will make you look forward to the summer."
And to his fans, he says: 'Bless up the fans', mi love the people them. I am working hard and I promise you something special for the summer."
