HALLANDALE, Florida (CMC)
The successful Jamaican racehorse trainer Kirk Ziadie collected a pair of wins at different tracks in Florida this last weekend.
Ziadie, the reigning Calder champion trainer, won at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday and appeared at Gulfstream on Sunday for a good Allowance race victory.
At Tampa, he won Saturday's US$7,000 12th race over seven furlongs with his seven-year-old horse Keystone Point.
David Cardoso was astride for an easy six-length victory, as the 7-2 second favourite Keystone Point finished fast and won in a time of one minute 25.03 seconds.
The triumph gave top-10 trainer Ziadie his 16th win at the current Tampa meet.
Ziadie, the 40-year-old son of Florida Hall of Fame trainer Ralph Ziadie, then captured Sunday's US$41,500 Allowance 10th race at Gulfstream over 1-1/16th miles on turf with the 5-2 favourite Cenzontle.
Under top jockey Manoel Cruz, the four-year-old colt produced a terrific finish, rapidly accelerating from fifth position entering the home stretch to snatch victory by a neck in 1:40.86.
Ziadie, who had won twice at Gulfstream on Friday, has 18 wins at Gulfstream this year and is eighth in the trainers' standings at the Hallandale facility.
