New Green booked their place in the final of the Captain's Bakery & Grill Manchester Major League following a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win over Georges Valley.
The result finally settled a two-way home and away semi-final series that needed yesterday's cliff-hanger after the second leg was blown off prematurely, in controversial circumstances at 0-0, the previous week.
The two teams have developed a strong rivalry ever since they met in the mid-season final, which New Green won 1-0. Again, no goals were scored in 90 minutes of regulation and the additional 30 minutes of extra-time. The match at times was played in pouring rain, yet the fans remained to watch the action. However, neither team showed the composure to build attacks and there were hurried clearances at either end.
New Green would, however, demonstrate calmer nerves and greater accuracy during the dreaded penalty kicks where neither goalkeeper effected a direct save. New Green's captain Kirk Baker set the tone for success by scoring first, and despite the miss by Battisse Gaynor on the fourth kick, Norman Wright, Ceyon Campbell and Khashwayne Miller with the fifth kick settled the contest 4-3. Noel Smith, Jody McGlashan and Shawn Walcott scored for the losers.
New Green will now face Mile Gully in the final set to be settled over two legs starting this weekend.
