Cops seek infant's mom

Rajay, abandoned in downtown Kingston on Saturday, is now at the City Centre police Station. - Ricardo Makyn

The City Centre police are seeking the help of the public to locate the mother of an infant who was abandoned in downtown Kingston on Saturday.

The child gives his name as Rajay and is thought to be about two years old.

Police told THE STAR that the child was taken to the Princess Street area about midday where his mother got her hair done. The mother then reportedly left the child with the hairdresser and promised to return. This was in the afternoon, and at 6:30 p.m., she had still not returned. The mother also left two bags, one of which contained Rajay's clothes, with the hairdresser. When THE STAR visited the police station, Rajay was seen clutching his bag and enjoying a patty and a drink, clearly unaware of the reality of his situation.

When the mother failed to return, the hairdresser took the child to her home in St Mary on the weekend, but took him to the City Centre police yesterday.

Rajay could not provide the name of his mother and the hairdresser who took him in was also unable to do so.

The police want anyone with information that may help them find Rajay's mother, to call the City Centre police at 922-9335.
