Legalise prostitution?

We're back! THE STAR poll is here once again and dare we say, better than ever. We 'hit' the streets with all the juiciest questions about sex, obeah, music, religion and much more and now we're ready to give you the results. Prepare to be shocked and amused like never before.

Prostitution and whether it should be legalised, has long been a hot topic. Many people believe it will never go away and, therefore, should be made legal. Others think legalising it would send the wrong message. We wanted to get more opinions, so we asked :

Do you think prostitution should be legalised in Jamaica or should it continue to be against the law? Here's what we were told :

Legalise prostitution.......12%

Continue to be

against the law.................86%

Don't Know.........................2%

Clearly the vast majority of those polled want prostitution to remain illegal. A whopping 86% of respondents said they would not want it to be legalised. On the other hand, 12% said it should be.

It would be interesting to hear this 12% explain why the trade should be legalised and how this would benefit society.

The poll was conducted on January 28-29 by Johnson Survey Research Limited.

Sample size: 1008 residents
