Premier League trio hunt KO Cup

Tivoli's Navion Boyd - file

TIVOLI GARDENS, Waterhouse and Village United badly need some form of silverware to salvage their season whereas Granville of St James are aiming to be the first non-Premier League team, since Naggo Head in 1997, to win the national knockout competition.

Tomorrow's COK Champions Cup Knockout semi-finals at Tivoli's home ground, the Edward Seaga Stadium, kick off with an all-premiership clash between Village and Waterhouse at 4:00 p.m. followed by the hosts tackling Granville at 6:00 p.m.

Waterhouse and Village have already met three times this season in the Premier League, trading victories at their respective home grounds in the first two rounds before drawing 0-0 in the third round at Village's Elliston-Wakeland Centre.

The match-up between the premiership duo should be an interesting affair, considering Waterhouse are out of the running for a shot at the Premier League title whereas Village United will be playing among the bottom six teams to avoid relegation after being edged out of a spot to play the elite six in the fourth round.

The afternoon's feature pits Tivoli, who are five points behind leaders Portmore in the premiership, against Granville, defending Western Confederation champions, coached by a female, Tracey Reid, the wife of goalkeeper Loxley Reid.

Granville booted Premier League leaders and defending champions Portmore United out of the quarter-finals 5-4 on penalties after the teams played to a 1-1 draw at the end of full and extra-time at the Sam Sharpe Teachers' College in Montego Bay.

No pushovers, Granville missed out on competing in this season's premiership when they lost out in the promotion playoffs to Sporting Central of Clarendon and St Georges of Portland.

On their way to the quarter-finals, Granville beat Premiership team Seba and Bath of St Thomas 5-1.

However, Tivoli Gardens will be tough at home after rebounding from back-to-back losses in the premiership, beating St Georges 3-1 at the venue on Wednesday.

The homesters' youthful attack of Navion Boyd, Jermaine Allen and Jermaine Grey, backed by a strong left flank with Christopher Jackson on patrol, should be too much for Granville.

Meanwhile, the match-up between Village and Waterhouse should be hot with Fabian Dawkins being the dangerman for the Trelawny side.

Waterhouse and Village United advanced to the semi-finals with contrasting victories.

Village rallied from a goal down to trounce Clarendon parish champions Humble Lions 4-1 at the York Town Community Centre and Waterhouse took out Premier League strugglers August Town 1-0 at Drewsland.
