A man who appeared before the Corporate Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday pleaded guilty to charges of obtaining money by false pretences.
Charged is Conrad Duncan of an employment agency in Kingston.
Court files indicate that two complainants went to the agency seeking overseas employment and were told by the accused that they had to pay for the services. Both complainants paid $77, 000 in fees but got no jobs. They then decided to press charges to retrieve their money.
In dealing with the matter, RM Glen Brown asked Duncan, "Do you have an agency and he replied "not really".
In his response, Duncan explained that he had all intentions of getting the jobs, however, the process was "longish" as the link he had was via the Internet and that at the time when the complainants requested a refund, he did not have the money.
Duncan apologised profusely for not providing the jobs and for the inconvenience. The money was given to both complainants in front of the court and Duncan was fined $10,000 or two months.
