Performers look forward to 50Fest

As the countdown to the tri-venue, six-day Best Dressed 50Fest continues, on Thursday evening, some of the Jamaican performers on the Jamaica Broilers Group's 50th anniversary celebratory event stopped by Prayz House, Sovereign Centre, New Kingston.

Best Dressed 50Fest begins at the Manchester High School in Mandeville, Manchester, on April 26 and 27, then moves to Montego Bay, St James, where it will be held at the Dump-Up Beach. The climactic Kingston staging takes place from May 2-3 at Kings House.

Tony Young, who hosted the small get-together, pointed out that Jamaica Broilers is not putting on the event, which will combine evangelism, performances and extreme sports "to show off, but they want to say thanks".

Tommy Cowan, who ran through the line-up, noted the input of the Church, as "the churches from the four corners of this wonderful, beautiful island will be involved".

As for the extreme sports, which Cowan said he had seen at Luis Palau events in the United States, they are guaranteed to "bring your blood pressure up".

And he made it clear that it is not simply a matter of their doing stunts which require their going high in the air, but "while they go up, they are testifying at the same time".

It is not merely a celebratory event, though. As Cowan said, "this is an opportunity to help to gather in the harvest for the souls. We expect that every person coming will bring someone who is unsaved". He also said that the youngsters had been instructed in peer ministering and will duly be spreading the word.

Very supportive

A recurrent theme through the testimonials of the performers was that Jamaica Broilers Group is not new to gospel. Gospel artiste Mr Gallimore said that "Best Dressed is a company that has been very supportive of gospel". As such, he would have had to be at 50Fest even if he was not on the line-up.

Chevelle Franklin said that she was just coming back from England with Stitchie, who had been in Berlin, on the same flight. Previously she had been in South Africa. As for 50Fest, she said "I am excited about this", while Jason Mighty said "I am happy to be a part of it".

Carlene Davis said that Jamaica Broilers "are such a blessing to gospel, helping to spread gospel around Jamaica and outside Jamaica".
