The lead story of last Wednesday's STAR highlighted something about one of our nation's youth that can truly be celebrated.
The article was about a 14-year-old girl, who is six feet nine inches tall and growing. It spoke of the trials she is facing at this young age.
According to the article she has problems finding clothes, travelling in buses and cars and even holding on her bed at home.
However the challenges do not seem to get her down as the article describes her as a cheerful and pleasant young woman.
Marvadene Anderson, the tall teen, has certainly turn something that could have been a potential problem into an asset and this reaping rewards for her.
Salute and encourage
A member in the Jamaica's Under-16 Netball team, she recently won the best shooter award at the Caribbean Netball Championships and helped Jamaica win their seventh title in 10 years.
We should salute and encourage this teen, who has a promising future, not only as a sports woman but as an ambassador for Jamaica.
Other Jamaicans need to learn a lesson from her as well. There are others with unique traits or skills yet they choose to complain about them rather than use them to their benefit.
Marvadene is evidence of what one can achieve through hard work and support. Her family must also be commended for encouraging her.
Her family is proof of the successes one can reap when the right support is joined with the right abilities.
