An increased effort by the Constant Spring police to reduce the number of robberies within the division yesterday resulted in the seizure of some 3,000 Cuban-made light bulbs, a stolen vehicle and the arrest of two teenagers.

It was reported that about 1:45 p.m. police were conducting a spotcheck in Stony Hill, St. Andrew, when they intercepted a Toyota Yaris motor car with two youths ages 19 and 17.

One of the detained teens is said by the police to be the son of a People's National Party councillor/caretaker.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in the division a few days ago and was alleged to be involved in a series or robberies since January.

A further probe then led the police to Stony Hill where the large quantity of light bulbs was found.

Commanding Officer for the St. Andrew North Division, Superint-endent Anthony Morris, said though in its early stages, investigations would continue to determine whether if the bulbs were linked to the controversial Cuban light-bulb project.

"We will be continuing in that aspect to see if the bulbs are indeed linked to the project, investigations are in its preliminary stages at this point though," Superintendent Morris said, adding that the Organised Crime Investigative Division had been contacted.

Morris said the father of one of the young men, is being sought as the police were told that he (the father) was responsible for taking the bulbs to the home.
