West Indies cricket team manager Omar Khan says his team will be going all out for a clean sweep against Sri Lanka when they meet in the third and final Digicel One Day International (ODI) match on Tuesday in St Lucia.
Speaking to CMC Sports before the West Indies team left for St Lucia, Khan said they are anxious to achieve the whitewash to keep the momentum.
"Getting a win in the third and final match and sweeping the series is very important to us. West Indies need to assert themselves in order to start the trek back to the top," he said.
"When an opportunity presents itself to achieve this, then the team must go all out," added Khan, who is in his first series as West Indies team manager.
West Indies won the opening match in Trinidad by one wicket and the second match by seven wickets. They take a winning 2-0 lead in the three-match series heading into the final game a day/night fixture at the Beausejour Ground in St Lucia.
Culture change
Khan said the culture of the team is changing and this is a positive sign for West Indies cricket.
"The culture of the team is currently changing and this will lead to progress. We have been stressing to the guys that they have to take responsibility for their performances and they must take ownership. Players must be held accountable for their performances on the team and this would lead to better professionalism."
Khan added that the players are united and they are one big family.
"Players are looking out for each other on this team and bonding very well. As manager of the team, I can tell you that the players have responded well to me and have made me very comfortable.
"We are pleased with the performance of the team thus far in this series and what the management is now asking of them is consistency. There is still a lot of work to be done with this team and they know what it takes to become winners again."
Confident
Khan said the West Indies will be practising at the Beausejour cricket ground this afternoon leading up to their first day/night encounter in the Caribbean.
"The guys are currently very confident and will be looking for another win. The day/night game is a different scenario and when we get over to St Lucia we will have to assess the conditions and then the coach can map a plan to win the match.
"However, having said all that, the end result is that the players have to develop a professional approach and try to do the right things day in, day out," Khan said.
