A retired policeman was killed in an accident along Mandela Highway on Sunday morning.
Dead is 69-year-old retired police sergeant Hopeton Watkis of Bridgeport, St Catherine.
Police reports are that about 8:45 a.m., Watkis was driving a BMW motor car registered 1581 EN, with one passenger aboard, along the highway. They were heading towards Six Miles.
On reaching a section of the roadway he lost control of the vehicle, which plunged into a canal. The two were rescued by motorists and taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where Watkis was pronounced dead and the passenger examined and released.
The Duhaney Park Traffic Department is investigating.
Meanwhile, the Spanish Town Traffic Department are also probing an accident in which a pedestrian was killed last Friday night.
The dead man, who is still unidentified, was hit by a motor vehicle while crossing the Twickenham Park main road in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
He is of slim build, about 173 cm long and was clad in a blue shirt and khaki pants. Police reports are that about 9:30 p.m., the man was walking along the main road when he was hit by a motor vehicle that did not stop.
He received multiple injuries and died on the spot. The police were called and the body removed to the morgue.
