Crowd favourite Marsha Marie Campbell, wearing the sash Miss Xclusive Beauty Salon, won the Burger King/It's Ok Corporation Miss Portmore Festival Queen competition from a field of 13 contestants at the Portmore HEART Academy on Sunday.

πe, I was confident of victory after hearing the encouraging sounds from the audience on the night," She said. She promised Portmore people that she will do her best at the St Catherine Festival Queen competition on May 4. "I need all the support for that contest," Marsha said, while adding that she needs support not only from Portmore people but everywhere. She pointed out that her mom, family members and friends encouraged her and she owes them a ton of gratitude.

WINNING PRIZES

Campbell in winning, received the Oliver Electronics cash award of $20,000, the Supreme Ventures LTD, winning trophy, $7,000 to start up an account from St. Catherine Co-operative Credit Union, a portrait photograph, bouquet from Jade Vine, cellular phone, S&P Wireless Portmore, and free eye examination-Portmore Bone & Eye Clinic.

In addition to all these prizes, she was given a weekend for two by Mayor Keith Hinds. 'Marshie', as she is affectionately called, won ahead of first runner-up Kedisha Williams, Miss Ken's Wildflower, and second runner-up 25-year-old, Nikeda Lawrence, Miss Tinga's Discount Store. All three will represent the sunshine city at the parish level.

Campbell, a multi-talented UWI student, won three of the five sectional prizes, including best personality, most culturally aware, and best talent. Samantha Blake received the most congenial award, and Nikeesha Francis got the prize for most photogenic, a cash award and a framed portrait photograph.

Marsha led the girls during the opening act, and had the audience eating out of her hands during the talent segment.

She portrayed Jean Binta-Breeze's poem entitled: "Rhythm ravings" perfectly with the audience agreeing with cheers.

The contestants were judged in evening wear, talent piece, testing their cultural awareness, and a question and answer segment.
