Energy high as 'Kings and Queens' gets hotter

Tanola Jackson, Star Writer

Contestant Baby Tash (left) listens as emcee Empress speaks to her during Saturday's event.

Members of the audience erupted when emcee Empress introduced 'The Doctor', Beenie Man, as guest judge, at last Saturday's Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall competition.

Beenie, being guest judge, was maybe what motivated the contestants, as they all gave very energetic performances and impressed the judges lyrically.

Day Injah was the first to set the pace for the night, with Anthony B's Tease Her, which went well with female audience members.

Beenie Man was the guest judge at last Saturday's show.

Frenzy

His second performance was no different, and at one point the place was in a frenzy as he sang, "Any weight mi a lift a mussi Jackie or Diana," a line from his song Instrument.

Next up was Monalisa performing Timbalee's Fat Til It Buff. Her performance was a surprise and the judges felt it was maybe one of her best presentations so far. "Yuh a go hard, only problem though a think yuh need to work di main stage but everyting else a murder," guest judge Beenie Man said.

Praise

Singer Jah reaches out to members of the audience at the Magnum Kings and Queens show on Saturday.

Singer Jah was next on stage delivering Garnet Silk's Zion In A Vision. His performance was, as usual, a hit with the audience and his second song Roll An Turn, got as much praise as his first.

When Baby Tash followed doing Macka Diamond's Done Already, all of the judges agreed that her performance was good.

"Mi like fi see a woman proud a dem self. Baby yuh a go hard," Beenie said.

Her second song titled Mix Up was even better and had the audience cheering, when she mentioned that "Mi nah stay pon di border like Shebada". Guest judge Beenie was so impressed with her lyrics, the only ting he could say was, "yuh lyrics a murda."

Mistake

Senita

It was certainly no Eediat ting when Senita came out performing Assassin's hit song and although he made a mistake performing his second song Listen What I Got To Say,the judges still felt he made a fair attempt.

Tellah came out performing Lady Saw's Walk Out, and had both the audience and judges loving every minute of her performance.

However, her secondsong Mi Platinum didn't go too well.

According to Miss Kitty, "Mi hear di first verse already, Tellah weh yuh a try do cheat di ting, yuh have to be fresh."

For this week, instead of the usual two, there were four contestants, Lushus, Mollo B, DJ and Dj Chromaz who were sent home after receiving the lowest votes.
