Reggae Singer, Cocoa Tea, one of the latest persons to introduce a new roots wine to the local market, is hoping that his Jam Jam' roots wine will offer an alternative to the 'sweet' taste of other roots wines already in existence.
"People a sey that di roots drink dem wey dem have pon di market, an wi nah call nuh name, dem a sey dem too sweet," Cocoa Tea said. So now, with his latest invention, "the taste is more natural, not as sweet and yuh can actually taste some of the root ingredients in it."
The singer known for hits such as Tune In saidthat the concept and name of his new wine came from his stage show which is called Dancehall Jam Jam. "Even though wi sell all a di hard liquor dem a di show, most people wey come a Rasta an dem need fi have dem roots drink."
Real natural ting
He continued, "suh afta wi find dat out, wi have a brethren from St Ann wey normally mek roots drink, an wi ask him fi sort out sum'n fi wi an when him deal wid it an di people taste it, dem a sey a di real natural ting dat. Suh wi pass it through all the right channels and even got it passed by the Jamaica Bureau of Standards."
Cocoa Tea says his latest 'Jam Jam' roots wine "is just another brand under the Jam Jam line because wi mek like clothes, caps, ladies wear, plaques, cups and other things made off the Jam Jam line. So wi incorporate the 'Jam Jam' roots to the line."
So far, Cocoa Tea says his new roots wine has been creating quite a stir, because "di people dem gone mad ova it", and persons have been telling him, "this roots has the real taste".
There is so far no promotional structure in place for the new roots drink as yet, but Cocoa Tea says he plans to take it on a widespread basis.
"Most a my artiste dem a endorse it already, but a just true right yah now, wi a put together all a wi ads dem together an wi embarking on a full promotional campaign that will soon be in full swing. We also plan to approach most of the big distributors and supermarkets, issue samples and get more feedback and approval from the public. But in terms of what wi hear already, the response is lovely, wi love what a gwaan," Cocoa Tea says.
