The root of social evil

Dwayne Mcleod, Staff Reporter

Recently, I was awakened by thumping bass sounds being emitted through the speakers that were situated at a nearby "dance".

It was almost 6 a.m. At that point, I remembered hearing of a party which was on the tongue of everyone in the community and surrounding areas.

Figuring that it must be the sounds from that much-talked-about weekly dance, I decided to throw off the sheets, get freshened up, drag on some gears and follow the echoing sounds to the source of entertainment.

My curiosity would lead me to a certain garrison area where the dance was being held in the centre of the community.

The too young, the young, the old and the too old were all at this party, which was now in full swing with no sign of ending anytime soon.

While getting my groove on to a few dancehall selections, I was interrupted by a group of individuals who were behind me. Their cheers and shouts of "Wine har!" drew my attention as well as that of others who could hear them.

I turned to see what the issue was and suddenly, my lower jaw fell as if it no longer had any form of support.

To everyone's amazement, a 35-year-old looking woman was down on all fours, bumping and grinding on a toddler. Yes, a toddler! This kid was not more than two years old but he had enough sense and stamina to complement the movements of his 'mother-aged counterpart' with a few moves of his own.

Please note that this was all unfolding with his mother watching.

Now, I normally find certain serious issues to be funny, but this one was far from being a joke.

This sort of behaviour is exactly what our nation's children need to become the sexual predators it seems that they are slowly becoming, sad to say.

Just think about it. In recent times, how many sex tapes involving youngsters have you seen or heard of?

I can admit that I've seen about five, along with a few emails with attached photos bearing the same sort of behaviour not to be displayed by our young ones.

So, I'm thinking, why bash our kids if they are being helped into such behaviour by the ones who should be protecting them?

It is no secret that such an issue needs immediate attention. However, it is also no secret that the attention need to be directed to the mothers, fathers, uncles and aunts of the children - our future.

Until this is done, I can almost guarantee that we will be seeing or hearing of more and more kids being involved in 'grown-up' activities.
