Forcibly administered birth control

We're back! THE STAR poll is here once again and, dare we say, better than ever. We hit the streets with all the juiciest questions about sex, obeah, music, religion and much more and now we're ready to give you the results. Prepare to be shocked and amused like never before.

Several women complain about fathers who are not adequately supporting their children. Many of these men have several children and so, find it hard to financially do their part. We wanted to hear some more views on this, so we asked :

Do you think birth control should be forcibly administered to men who father six or more children and are too poor to adequately care and support them? Here are the results :

Yes ............................................... 66%

No ................................................ 30%

Don't know .................................... 4%

It's no surprise that the majority of those polled believe that men who have six or more children and cannot care for them should be given birth control. It is also no surprise that most of the people who share this view are women.

The fact so many people believe that this is a good move is just proof that this is a real problem in our society. Unless some men are taken to court, they know that they are not obligated to pay for anything. Therefore, having child after child, is something some men feel they can do without any repercussions. Such a measure would probably get more men to think about their actions.

The poll was conducted from January 28 -29 by Johnson Survey Research Limited.
