Glenmuir scrape through

Dwayne Mcleod, Staff Reporter

In what is arguably the closest match thus far this season, Glenmuir High were almost booted from TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz competition by Manchester High who looked victorious with only seconds to go.

Glenmuir High managed to emerge 28-26 victors in a match that was pretty much handed to them, thanks to one silly mistake by Manchester High.

Before the match, one could not help but to notice the attitude of the Glenmuir players. This could easily be viewed as overconfidence on their part and it would take its toll on the team throughout the match.

Though section one ended in their favour with them leading 9-5, Manchester showed how they ended up in the quarter-finals.

In section two, the 'high riding' Glenmuir team only gain 11 points as they answered twice as many questions incorrectly as they did correctly.

Manchester High on the other hand held their composure and took a two-point lead over their opponents. Manchester High also took their momentum into the final section.

At one point, Glenmuir were six points behind, nevertheless they continued to fight until they were only trailing by two points.

Manchester were seconds away from victory as they answered three questions correctly.

With only four seconds remaining, however, they buzzed in to a question which one would have thought would be attempted by the Glenmuir team who were trailing by two points.

It seemed that their nerves had got the better of them as a wrong answer saw the scores being now levelled on 26 points.

The following sudden death question was quickly buzzed in to by a surprised yet thankful-looking Glenmuir team who then answered correctly and nabbed the win.

After the match, the players from Glenmuir could do nothing but express that the match had them on the edge of their seats, while adding that Manchester played well.

On the other hand, the players from Manchester admitted that the final mistake cost them the game but noted that they will be working towards bettering themselves for next year.

Members of the Glenmuir team: Romario Thomas (captain), Darrien Bartley, Rojay Gordon, Mark Sterling.

Members of the Manchester team: Darren Gooden, Paul Henry, Thadeke Brown, Courtney Shaw.
