Business operators concern about rising crime

Rasbert Turner, Portmore Star Writer

Several business operators in Portmore have expressed concerns about the rising crime in the municipality.

President of the Portmore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr Dane Levy, said the business people are fearing that the crime is having a negative effect on businesses and this need to change.

"I can't see how people can be so cold to each other, as it is just a waste of lives. We need this to change," said Levy.

He told THE PORTMORE STAR that the security committee of the chambers will continue to lobby and support the police in its fight against crime. "We have assisted them with the purchase of a vehicle to patrol and we intend to do more as crime is every ones problem," he said.

Levy said that the way to make things better, is for all persons to join the fight against crime.

In recent time several persons have been shot to death in the municipality and more than 70 per cent of the 21 guns sized in the St. Catherine South Division, were found in the Sunshine City.

The police have since stepped up their presence in the municipality and Levy said this is the way forward or commerce will be badly affected.
