After three years of eluding police, a man charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm was arrested and brought before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.
Sherman Williams, a 54-year-old driver of a Kingston 11 address, was granted $30,000 bail with surety by Resident Magistrate Glen Brown on Wednesday. As a condition of his bail, he was also given reporting conditions to visit the Hunts Bay Police Station.
Allegations read in court are that in 2005, Williams was driving a car when he met in an accident with the complainant. When she stopped and enquired of him about documents, he refused to give them to her and tried to steal away.
In an attempt to leave, he got into his car and when the complainant tried to stop him, he used his car to hit her, causing injuries. The crown indicated that they had photographs of the abuse and that the injuries were serious.
The crown had stated earlier when Williams' lawyer made a bail application that it was not opposed, but wanted some conditions as the police went to the accused's house nine times trying to locate him since the incident. He was subsequently arrested about two weeks ago.
The mention date was set for April 16.
