Accused officer defends himself

THE STAR, after the letter, made several calls to check its validity.

After making contact with the writer we spoke to the accused officer, who said that he did not know the husband in question and had not harassed anyone. "I have no knowledge of that. I don't even know this person," he said.

He added that he felt this was an attempt to destroy his reputation by unscrupulous persons, as no complaint was made to his supervisor or any police authorities. "Why didn't she make a report to my supervisor. The Police Complaints Authority has an office in Montego Bay and Kingston she could have made a report there," he said.

He noted that if the complainant made a report through either of these avenues, he would have been contacted and allowed to address the concerns and give his side of the story.

In terms of the fear of the couple to step forward and report the harassment, Assistant Commissioner of Police Justin Felice, head of the Anti-Corruption Branch, is advising the couple to "speak to me in confidence. I'll protect their anonymity."
