THE EDITOR, Sir:
Heartfelt thanks to Barbara Gloudon for the wonderful tribute to the late Oliver Foot in The Gleaner (26.02.08).
Her letter brought on nostalgic feelings. I recall the wonderful and well loved last Colonial governor Sir Hugh Foot, when life in Jamaica seemed to me, so humble and clean.
I am touched and moved by this gesture of kindness by Oliver, the son of our former governor. He, so lovingly and without looking for reward, did something so precious for the island.
It is surely not very often that foreign minorities get so many accolades and so Mrs. Gloudon's letter made my day. I just want to say a prayer for the soul of this wonderful man, who so quietly and so unassumingly, initiated such a priceless project for the poor of this country.
I am, etc.,
