Let's work until we're through

THE EDITOR, Sir:

In 2 Thessalonians Chapter 3 verse 10 it says "If a man will not work he should not eat." In Genesis 3 verse 19, God told Adam, "By the sweat of thy brow thou shall eat bread".

But since Independence, most people are not given the opportunity to work after they reach 65. We need to break this trend.

This is a great disadvantage. Senior citizens jobs are terminated and they are being sent home in favour of the young people. But to do what? People should continue working, as long as they are able-bodied, fit and full of stamina.

Former prime ministers Edward Seaga and PJ Patterson, have no problem getting jobs.

Are people of high rank more fortunate in going the extra-mile in the working class field than those of a lower status? I think some re-adjustment in the Constitution, concerning certain matters have to be made.

When you go to the Ministry of Labour, if you are above 40, you will not be able to travel to the US or Canada on the farm work programme.

The younger ones are more fortunate these days. We ought to put an end to this discrimination. Let people work until they can't go no more.

I am, etc.,

DONALD JEFFERSON
