Barbadian Damian Sealy was a benefactor of a disqualification when his opponent went Mike Tyson on him in the first AIBA Americas Olympic qualifying tournament on Wednesday.
Sealy was trailing Argentina's Maximiliano Sosa 4-10 when the bout was astonishingly stopped in the third of its scheduled four rounds.
It was then it was pointed out that Sealy's ear was bitten by Sosa, which meant an automatic disqualification and dismay for the Argentine, who was expected to advance from their super heavyweight (200lb and over) bout.
The Barbadian will now advance to the quarter-finals, where he will face Jose Payares, who won a non-fight over Jamaican Andre Reid 19-1.
There were also wins for Andrew Fermin of Trinidad and Tobago and Clarence Joseph of the United States Virgins Islands - both won their middleweight (152-165lb) fights in contrasting styles.
Fermin wasted little time in disposing of Darius Cetoute of St Lucia when he floored him 32 seconds into the fight for the fastest win in the competition to date.
Joseph of the USVI sprang the first shock result of the night when he outpunched Marco Periban of Mexico to win a point decision 16-12 to move into the second round.
World boxing superpower Cuba were winners of both their bouts on the night with middleweight Emilia Correa Bayeux beating Yamaguchi Falcao of Brazil on points 26-10, and super heavyweight contender Robert Alfonso Acea outclassing Gidelson Oliveira, another Brazilian, 12-4 in their bout.
