THE EDITOR, Sir:
This is a letter on multiple subjects.
Are we serious about life? We are serious about accumulating material things; we are serious about earning money - making more and more money. Nothing is wrong about seeking material things and money. They are human's basic needs, but we must do and not overdo. Money can't buy life. Life and health come first.
I wish I had the power, the supernatural power, to put an end to crime and violence. I wish I had the power to stop wicked and heartless men from murdering adults and children at will. I wish I had the power to prevent 'foolish' women from staying in relationships where their husbands and common-law husbands are physically abusing them, threatening to kill them, and using them like foot cloths. And these women beaters were born of woman.
When a relationship is terminated, or there is a divorce or a separation where the woman leaves the man, the man should not threaten to kill her if she starts a new relationship. This is total madness. A woman should be free to choose and make her own decision, without the man intimidating and threatening her. This type of bullyism, this man-power-brutality and domination over women, must stop. Where is self-control? Quarrel if you have to, but don't kill, don't fight.
For years, people have been asking where the guns are coming from. Where do the criminals get them? Who are handing out the guns? Now, you tell me. It is said that the only thing man cannot do is create a living soul and they can't tell where the guns are coming from? They should be able to tell. We are living in an age of modern technology. And they don't know where the illegal guns are coming from?
Since so many people are dying by stabbing, since the knives are claiming the lives of so many people, don't you believe the Government has to do something about these knives and/or the users of these weapons?
I think the programme where men can be searched and their knives taken away needs to be strengthened in a way that it will deter the carrying of these weapons.
I am, etc.,
